Prevalence of anticonvulsant-induced vitamin D deficiency

Background. Epilepsy is a common disease in children and adults, requiring long-term or lifelong use of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) 60% cases. Enzyme-inducing enzyme-inhibiting AEDs may have negative effect on vitamin D metabolism. However, at present, standard treatment protocols for patients with epilepsy include no nutrients vitamin-mineral containing complexes. Objective: to analyze studies the prevalence deficiency induced by intake epilepsy. Material methods . The search full-text publications Russian English was carried out ?Library, PubMed/ MEDLINE, ClinicalKey, Google Scholar databases, covering last five years. analysis included 9 domestic 54 foreign epidemiological assessing AED-induced and, consequently, altered bone mineralization osteomalacia/osteoporosis.
